Next time you're getting ready to toss out an old pair of basketball shoes, consider making them a part of history instead.
As they prepare for the opening of the Golden 1 Center arena in October, the Sacramento Kings are calling on fans to donate their used sneakers to help build the court. It's part of the Kings' ongoing push for sustainability, and it's also one of the coolest ways to leave your mark on NBA history. The sneakers will be used to create a layer of foam underneath the hardwood that provides a more cushioned surface and better distribution of weight.
To get involved, you'll need to bring your kicks to tomorrow's Kings-Pelicans showdown and drop them off at the main entrance of the Sleep Train Arena. Alternatively, you can Tweet @SacramentoKings or @Kings_Community with reasons as to why your shoes should be chosen. If selected, they'll actually come to your house to pick them up. But hold up, there's one more thing you should know.
"This is a unique opportunity for fans to be a part of an important element of the new arena, so we kindly ask fans not to donate any Kobes," the team added.
