Storied skate brand Vans is cooking up something special for one of its oldest sneakers this spring, and we got a look at what's in the kitchen.

Under Vans' premium Vault label, the brand is modernizing its first sidestripe silhouette, the Old Skool, with an added zipper on the medial side, just as it did with the Blends "Bones" collaboration from last year. Made with full-grain leather uppers, the resulting upgrade is a lesson on how to refine a skate classic without deviating from a winning formula.

The side zip function, much like its Sk8-Hi Zip counterpart, makes the shoe a ton easier to slip on and off, something both skaters and sneakerheads would enjoy.

And while the initial Blends Old Skool collab was a special makeup for the shop, these Old Skool Zip LXs will officially debut as a general Vans Vault silhouette next month, making them a permanent part of the Vans family.

Look for them to arrive in April in four colors — Andorra, Black, Peacoat and White — with a retail price of $125.
