After teasing us back in May, Nike Basketball is finally set to release the highly-coveted Nike LeBron XI “What The.” Made up of pieces and patterns of the full LeBron line, the model can be broken down into 28 different pieces and brings memories of LeBron’s entry in the league and his current reign as one of the best players in the league. Nike Basketball took the opportunity to not just use the “What The” theme introduced on the SB Dunk Low back in 2007, but pay homage to the stories and moments in LeBron’s career that we remember most.
But before we dig into the LeBron XI, lets look back a bit. The “What The” theme first made its way on to the LeBron signature line back with the LeBron 9. The first version of the theme never made it to retail, but it gave hints to Nike’s direction with the theme as it had also touched the KD and Kobe signature lines. For theLeBron X, the team took the theme to the next level but kept it limited enough that only a handful of people were able to get their hands on a pair. As part of the Championship pack, the pairs were in high demand and command a huge premium on the aftermarket.
For the latest version, Nike Basketball has been a lot more generous with the distribution of the sneaker, which in some cases, has caused certain individuals in the sneaker community to swear off the sneaker. Pegged with a premium price tag, the Nike LeBron XI "What The” will cost you $250, but at least this time, people who love LeBron and his shoes will actually get a chance to get their hands on a pair.
