Nike's Lunar Ballistec Is the Early Pick for Best Tennis Shoe of 2014

And the year hasn't even started.

Tennis sneakers are severely underrated, but Nike's push for the country club-friendly sport has produced some of its most original silhouettes in recent times, the newest being the Lunar Ballistec.

The sneaker is eerily familiar to the KD VI, but the elongated forefoot Swoosh works well on this all-red silhouette that will help ease heads' pain of not getting a chance to cop the Red Octobers.

But if you actually play tennis, this sneaker works great, too. It's designed to make players get to the ball faster--which is always a good thing in one of the fastest sports.

"It wasn't about making a shoe lighter at all costs. We wanted to add to the superb durability, support and cushioning that existed in our tennis footwear to create a shoe that would improve our athlete's ability to compete and win," Michael Hui, Senior Designer of Tennis Footwear at Nike.

The sneaker only weighs 13 ounces and will available on Nike.com on January 2. Happy New Year.
