Margot Robbie Claims She Has No Idea What the Future of Harley Quinn Character Is

Margot Robbie claims she doesn't really know what the future of Harley Quinn is, which seems weird.

Suicide Squad was a massive, unequivocal failure, but there were a few important bright spots from the villain-centric film. Margot Robbie's performance as Harley Quinn was one of those, with her blend of humor and near insanity brightening up a pretty awful movie.

But if you were hoping to receive any positive news on the future of her character, think again! Robbie spoke with The Wrap at the Toronto International Film Festival, and they pressed her on when we might see the Joker's eccentric female partner next. Robbie didn't have much of an answer.

"I think next year I'll be back in the fishnets wielding a baseball bat, I hope," said Robbie. Asked if it would come in the as-yet-unnamed (and still not confirmed) Joker movie, Robbie was evasive. "Your guess is as good as mine at this point. I don't know."

Robbie's confusion is shared by most of the people involved with the D.C. universe, let alone the fans, because there's a lot of uncertainty over who will continue to be involved. Jared Leto, who had his shot at playing the Joker in Suicide Squad, appeared to be caught off guard by the Joker movie rumors, suggesting there might be someone else donning the makeup for the next film.

Maybe that's just Leto playing coy, but when two of the big names—and characters!—connected to your universe are totally in the dark as to what comes next, it casts a lot of doubt over just how organized Warner Bros. is. You want your stars to remain cryptic on what comes next, not to feel totally out of the loop and unable to build excitement for upcoming movies.

Robbie is going to continue getting asked about the use of the Quinn character in the extended DC universe, so if there's anyone with half a brain involved with the franchise, they'd make sure she's kept as up-to-date as possible on the future of Quinn.
