In the middle of all the blood spilled during "Beyond the Wall," there was a moment of calmness that caught the attention of Game of Thrones fans. Could there be a mysterious, magical secret attached to the weapon of one of the show's protagonists?

(WARNING: Game of Thrones spoilers will follow)

Once "Beyond the Wall" ended, Reddit users offered a theory that something was up with Jon Snow's sword, Longclaw, and even provided pictures as proof. And it certainly looks like an eye on the sword's handle is opening when Jon is climbing up out of the frozen lake.

But as it turns out, it sounds like this was just a happy accident for the team behind Thrones, not meant to spell out anything mystical about Longclaw. In fact, director Alan Taylor was completely unaware of the hype surrounding the scene, and he told Insider he's amused that Thrones fans are paying attention to miniscule details like these.

"That is so funny, somebody else mentioned that to me and I haven't got a clue what they're talking about," Taylor said. "So either this sword is magic and it's doing stuff on its own or something happened. I'm going to have to go back and watch that moment close up and in slow motion to see what's going on there. I can say that there was no intention for that to be the case."

He would elaborate on it further, agreeing with the interviewer's suggestion that it was just a product of the cold location they filmed at. "That sounds very likely because there was a lot of conversation about frost," he explained. "I think that's a very good theory and I'm gonna go with that one until I look at it more closely and see if I can figure out what's going on."

So you can read that one as case closed, at least as far as the director of the show is concerned. Could it be someone in the prop department leaving little Easter eggs behind for the fans, hoping to drive people nuts? Maybe, but the simplest explanation is probably the correct one here.

Stay vigilant, though, because you never know when a game-changing theory is going to upend the Game of Thrones universe.
