The title for Star Wars: Episode VIII has been revealed: Star Wars: The Last Jedi. So that report of it being Fall of the Resistance was a lie.

While there isn't much in the way of information regarding the plot, it's been said that the film will pick up right where The Force Awakens left off, which found Rey (Daisy Ridley) finding an old Luke Skywalker. But is Luke the last Jedi, or will that distinction fall upon Daisy? Here's the announcement that was posted on starwars.com.

"We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017."

What we do know is that Carrie Fisher, who passed away in December of 2016, will not be digitized for The Last Jedi, as she'd already wrapped all of her shooting for the upcoming film.

The Last Jedi is said to star Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, and more, with Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern being cast in currently unconfirmed roles. Keep it locked as we update more on this film before its December 15, 2017 release.
