The long-awaited Bad Boys 3 just got a new name and a new release date. Sony told Entertainment Weekly Thursday that the movie will officially be titled Bad Boys For Life. The studio is currently eyeing a Jan. 12, 2018 release date for the film, per the report. This marks the third planned release date for the movie, following Feb 7, 2017 and then June 2, 2017. Fans will no doubt be disappointed about the longer wait, but at least the film is still on track.

Fans of the film franchise will remember the quote “We ride together, we die together. Bad boys for life," from the last installment Bad Boys 2. The new movie title clearly plays homage to this, while departing from the traditional numbering. Interestingly, Bad Boys For Life will be the first installment of the series that isn't directed by Michael Bay. Instead, Joe Carnahan will take the reigns. Carnahan is best known for films like The Grey, Smokin' Aces, and The A-Team.

Fans first got official confirmation that things were definitely moving forward back in February, when Will Smith said that the movie was "definitely" happening. "I saw Martin [Lawrence] a few weeks ago," said Smith. "I haven't seen him for about two years. We just looked at each other. We hugged. In that moment, we knew we were making another Bad Boys. We're definitely doing another one."

The original Bad Boys came out in 1995, with the sequel following in 2003. Bad Boys 4 is still planned, with a tentative release date of July 3, 2019.
