For those who doubt the immediate influence of Deadpool's blockbuster status, look no further than the R-rated debate surrounding Suicide Squad and its already-in-development sequel. As for Deadpool 2, should fans of the original Ryan Reynolds festival of vulgarities expect more of the same? Director Tim Miller, speaking at length about the recently confirmed sequel to Collider, has a promisingly complicated answer.

"I don't look at Deadpool and think, 'Oh, that's a perfect movie,'" Miller told Collider's Steven Weintraub in a recent interview. "I look at it and go, 'Oh, God, there's so much stuff I could do better.'" For anyone fearing a more-is-better approach to Deadpool 2 in the vein of, say, Spider-Man 3, Miller can confirm those fears are most likely unfounded: "What you don't want to do is all the stupid stuff like 'Oh, now it has to be twice as big because people are going to be bored!' or 'It's going to have three times the villains!'" Apologies to Sandman, of course.

20th Century Fox, thankfully, also isn't pressuring Miller and his team to rush out a Deadpool 2 just to scoop up the max amount of dollars. "They want it to be great," Miller said. "They're giving us the time to make it great." Part of making Deadpool 2 great is nailing the portrayal of Cable, a fact of which Miller is very much aware. Until the script is done, however, Miller doesn't want to rush into any casting decisions.

As for the potential prospects of riding into Deadpool 2 with the industry-rocking success of its predecessor, Miller is cautiously optimistic. "It feels like a small movie to me and I feel like I could have done a much better job of getting us out there and adding some scope," Miller added of Deadpool's general vibe, praised by most. "I don't think I did a good job with establishing shots and scope and making it feel like a bigger world." According to Miller, parts of Deadpool felt "like a small indie movie."

Though Deadpool 2 doesn't yet have an official release date (or any real details to speak of), we should give Miller and the team a break. You can't rush (potential) greatness.
