Here's How 'The Daily Show' Helped Inspire Whitesboro to Finally Ditch Its Racist AF Village Seal

The village's seal was, to put it mildly, very murder-y.

A village in New York with the unfortunate name of Whitesboro has remained steadfast in its pursuit of headlines over the past year, a plight mostly fueled by its own obviously racist village seal. For those unfamiliar with Whitesboro or the concept of village seals, here's what they've been working with for decades:

"Is that pioneer choking that Native American dude to death or do I have something crazy in my eye?" This is the question of one Jessica Williams, resident Daily Show crafter of brilliance, but also accurately represents exactly what most of the country thought when they first discovered the image. Williams even suggested a few alternative seals of her own, including this downright wholesome image of two guys calmly choking another guy:

"I think you have to take all the facts into consideration," Whitesboro mayor Patrick O'Connor told reporters back in July, spending actual time trying to defend the blatantly horrible village seal. "If people take the time to do that and they reach out to us, or they do the research themselves, it’s actually a very accurate depiction of friendly wrestling matches that took place back in those days."

However, just days after an informal vote suggested that the seal might be here to stay, Whitesboro appears to have enjoyed a much-needed change of heart and/or brain. "This morning I spoke with the mayor of Whitesboro, and guess what?" Williams told Trevor Noah after debuting the segment. "They are changing the seal!"

The Daily Show for president, please?
