If that recently unearthed clip of Ben Carsonasserting his theory that many Americans "are stupid" taught us anything, it’s that saying something seemingly ridiculous might be a surefire way to get ahead in the polls. With Donald Trump currently bracing for a baffling hosting gig on Saturday Night Live this weekend, much of the Republican-centered headlines have been concerned with the party’s increasingly contentious relationship with televised debates. In fact, Republicans are now threatening to boycott next year’s big NBC showdown after what they deemed unfair treatment at the recent CNBC spectacle.

Speaking to a noticeably star-studded crowd at the Broadway show Hamilton, where Democrats were simultaneously holding a fundraiser, President Barack Obama was quick to highlight the hypocrisy afoot in Republicans’ dramatic move toward a full-on boycott. "They say, ‘When I talk to Putin, he’s going to straighten out,’ and then it turns out they can’t handle a bunch of CNBC moderators," Obama joked to the audience, which the Hollywood Reporter notes included Chris Rock, Ethan Hawke, Kerry Washington, and others. "If you can’t handle those guys," the president continued, "I don’t think the Chinese and the Russians are going to be too worried about you."

In case you were wondering, because maybe you enjoy self-torture or something, Carly Fiorina reportedly announced on Monday that she endorsed the addition of Glenn Beck as a moderator for future debates. According to THR, Ted Cruz also “floated the idea” of both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity as additions to the lineup and, quite frankly, this is all exactly what the German Devil Rat was trying to warn us about.
