“I will shoot your f***ing head off” were the last words 19-year-old Zachary Hammond heard before being fatally shot by South Carolina’s Seneca Officer Mark Tiller, a dashcam video released today revealed.
The video surfaces after the state decided Officer Tiller would not face criminal charges for killing the unarmed teen on July 26.
Solicitor Chrissy Adams of the 10th circuit said in a statement “After careful consideration of the facts of the case, a thorough review of the State investigation, and an extensive review of all applicable law, I have determined that no criminal charges should be filed against Lt. Mark Tiller at the State level. I met with the Hammond family today and have informed them of this decision.”
The graphic video shows Hammond pulling into a parking lot, a federal lawsuit filed by Hammond’s family later revealing it was a Hardee’s where he wanted to get a burger after getting ice cream at a McDonald’s while on a date with a woman, Tori Diana Morton. Morton was the target of a drug sting. In the video the officer pulls up behind Hammond and walks over to the car, gun in hand, telling him to put his hands up. Hammond starts to back the car up to leave, the officer yelling at him to stop and as Hammond starts to drive past Tiller Tiller utters those fatal words and shoots Hammond.
The case is still under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.
