Take a hit and be happy,Trainspotting fans: the gift for the cult classic's 20th anniversary next year will be the sequel you've all been waiting decades for. While doing press for Steve Jobs director Danny Boyleconfirmed he and the entire cast—that's Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, and even perennially busy network TV stars Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle—are banding back together next year to finally shoot the follow-up that's always been discussed but never came to fruition. Ironically, despite the bigger profiles of everyone involved not to mention the film overall, production for the sequel will have to be just as tight as the original's shoestring budget shoot was, just to accommodate Boyle and the cast's busy schedules. Of course, the budget itself will be larger, but Boyle maintains that it's intentionally low enough to keep studio suits from interfering, so as to maintain "some sense of the original."

As for whether the movie itself will live up to twenty years of adoration? Of course, everyone involved is aware of the reputation it has to uphold. Boyle is confident that so far they have: "The actors were understandably worried about its reputation and not wanting to let people down or to just be cashing in," he said. "So actually the script, which John [Hodge], has written has been put under a very fierce spotlight by everyone, and it’s a good one." The script is said to borrow elements from writer Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting sequel, Porno, which is set 10 years after the original. But Boyle adds that the sequel is "it's own thing." If all goes according to schedule, the film will shoot and release next year.
