The Bidding for Malia Obama's Hand in Marriage Is Now at 500 Cows

Will Barack Obama accept?

The Kenyan bidding for Malia Obama's hand in marriage is heating up. Late last month a young lawyer named Felix Kiprono made a public offer to Barack Obama to trade 50 cows, 70 sheep, and 30 goats for Malia's hand in marriage. Now he'll have to compete with a second Kenyan man who's one-upped Kiprono by offering 500 cows or the equivalent amount of money.

Jeff ole Kishau, a 24-year-old Maasai moran, says he's prepared to sell all of his ancestral land to win Malia's hand in marriage, Daily Nation reports. He scoffed at Kiprono's initial offer, saying: "My friend Kiprono is playing jokes with the U.S. president’s daughter. How can you offer only 50 cows for the daughter of the most powerful man in the world?"

Everyone knows 50 cows is chump change. But unlike Kishau, Kiprono professed his love for Malia to The Nairobian:

People might say I am after the family's money, which is not the case. My love is real. I got interested in her in 2008," he said. "As a matter of fact, I haven't dated anyone since and promise to be faithful to her. I have shared this with my family and they are willing to help me raise the bride price

Barack's got a tough choice: Does he marry off his 16-year-old daughter for love or an overwhelming amount of cows? We'll see if he decides before his first visit to Kenya as president in July.
