The forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel, quickly approaching theaters with a brazen disregard for the fact that the original (the original reboot? the first revival?) Turtles bastardization by way of Michael Bay currently boasts a 21% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just landed its first legitimate brag. Laura Linney — yes, that Laura Linney — is reportedly joining the cast of TMNT 2. THR says that details surrounding Linney's role are scarce, so feel free to flex your speculation muscles.

Linney fans will be quick to point out that this marks Linney's first move into the traditional blockbuster format, a seemingly odd choice for the three-time Academy Award nominee. Linney wrapped up the acclaimed Showtime series The Big C in 2013, though I'm partial to stellar performances in Noah Baumbach's The Squid & the Whale (see it), The Truman Show (see it.), and The Savages (see it!).

As cynical as I am regarding anything related to Michael Bay destroying my childhood (the list is long, but let's just start with Transformers and end with Turtles), and as hesitant as I am to embrace their potential value (TMNT had none), the inclusion of the pretty reliable Laura Linney is quite compelling.

TMNT 2 collapses into theaters on June 3, 2016.
