In a new PSA clip for the Center for Reproductive Rights, Girls star Jemima Kirke details her own experiences with the stigmatization associated with abortions — a stigmatization that Kirke hopes her two daughters will never have to face. "I would love if, when they're older, the political issues surrounding their bodies were not there anymore," Kirke says in the three-minute clip.

In 2007, Kirke got pregnant with her then-boyfriend and decided to end the pregnancy as a matter of personal responsibility. "I wasn't sure I wanted to be attached to that person for the rest of my life," Kirke says. "My life was just not conducive to raising a happy, healthy child [and] I just didn't feel it was fair." To save money on the procedure, she also refused anesthesia. Furthermore, Kirke didn't immediately inform her parents (former Bad Company Drummer Simon Kirke and fashion designer Lorraine Kirke) of either the pregnancy or the abortion.

Kirke — an actress and artist — hopes that maintaining a public dialogue on the truth about reproductive rights will not only ensure a better future for her two daughters, but for all daughters of tomorrow.
