Netflix is locked in a serious battle for the attention spans of younger viewers, competing with video-streaming services like Amazon for the best original children's programming. Their recent partnership with DreamWorks has led to a few good kids-friendly shows like TURBO: Fast, The Adventures of Puss in Boots and All Hail King Julien—but now, Netflix is rebooting a series anyone who grew up in the 90s will know and love: Inspector Gadget.
The trailer for the new animated series is out today, and it looks awesome. No real plot details are given, but it looks like Inspector Gadget gets yanked out of retirement and golfing bliss and gets his old job back to fight Dr. Claw. He's delightful and hilarious as ever, though it's a bummer the revamped series isn't in the classic 2D style, and the beloved theme song has been replaced.
Will the show live up to our nostalgia-tinged standards? Do kids these days even know who Inspector Gadget is? Viewers will have to wait and see to find out. All episodes will be released on Friday, March 27.
