Surveillance cameras continue to become present, and in some cases, like this one, necessary these days. Surveillance footage has been heavily used for the Michael Brown case. New footage just surfaced of Darren Wilson, the officer who killed Brown, leaving the police station looking not as injured as he had claimed to be following his encounter with Brown.

But we digress. A woman stabbing a cab driver in San Mateo was just caught after the incident was captured on the cab’s surveillance cam.

San Mateo County Prosecutor Aaron Fitzgerald just said the video was enough evidence to charge the woman. “We as prosecutors … try to paint a picture to the jury — video shows it and reveals it,” said Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald mentioned how surveillance cameras are relied on for evidence in many cases. He also clarified that this doesn’t violate the fourth amendment since these cameras are intended for private use, not governmental.

In the end the video ended up helping the attacker because she was seen singing after the attack so her defense said it was evidence of mental illness, which got her sent to a hospital instead of prison.

The cab driver survived the attack.
