A reporter for a local news station in New Jersey is without a job after claiming—on air—that the death of a rookie police officer can be attributed to the absence of fathers in the African-American community.

News 12 New Jersey anchor Sean Bergin's outburst came Sunday night, following the death of Jersey City Officer Melvin Santiago, 23, who was killed by 27-year-old Lawrence Campbell while responding to a call about a robbery on Sunday morning.

Campbell reportedly told a witness that he was going to be "famous," in lieu of his actions, and his widow, Angelique, told News 12 that he should've killed more cops if he was going to die in the fashion that he did.

According to Bergin, this "anti-cop mentality" is the result of "young black men growing up without fathers." Bergin then boldly proclaimed that most members of the media lacked the "courage" to speak up about the reckless opinion he presented as a fact.

After initially being suspended, Bergin chose to step down. His "courage" cost him his job. Good luck finding employment elsewhere.
