Could Sony bring back Crash Bandicoot? Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House says it's certainly possible. Speaking with The Telegraph this week at Brighton's Develop conference, House said that resurrecting PlayStation's once-upon-a-time mascot for (presumably) new games is something that Sony has been contemplating.
"In concept, it is something we've been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us," House said. "We've started to say that maybe there isn't anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth."
Though Sony has periodically revisited old series like Sly Cooper or Twisted Metal, they're not known for recycling characters and series once they've moved away from them (which might explain the somewhat tepid response to the one-off PlayStation take on Smash Bros., PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal).
It's also unclear (and probably unlikely) that original developer Naughty Dog would be picking up the reins on a new Crash game, if it were to happen. As it stands, Crash's rights seem to be in something of a limbo after some weird legal goings-on last year with current (previous?) owner Activision.
Still, House's words are a glimmer of hope for fans that grew up with Crash. (Having recently gone back to revisit the original PS One title through PSN, I have to say, it holds up incredibly well for its age.)
