The YA genre is one of the most profitable in all of Hollywood, and one of the keys to its success is the stellar casts most of these movies put together. Both the Harry Potter and Hunger Games franchises have featured a nice mix of up-and-comers and established veterans, and it looks like the Divergent series is following that formula with the inclusion of Naomi Watts. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Watts has agreed to star in the next three Divergent movies: Insurgent and two movies based on the final book, Allegiant.
In the series, Watts will play Evelyn, the leader of the Factionless. This will be Watts’ first blockbuster role since Peter Jackson’s King Kong remake back in 2005. She’ll be joining a cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Miles Teller, and Octavia Spencer.
Insurgent will hit theaters on March 20, 2015.
