Producers of "Spring Breakers" Sequel Fire Back at James Franco

The producers of "Spring Breakers 2" have responded to James Fanco's criticism.

When James Franco went off about the forthcoming sequel to Spring Breakers, saying that “It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d'être: to make money off someone else's creativity,” he had to think there might be reprecussions.

Today, Muse Productions’ Chris Hanley fired back. The following is from a conversation between Hanley and Variety:

“Let’s see if I can remember all of the sequels James has done.” laughed Chris Hanley, helpfully listing “‘The Great and Mighty Oz,’ ‘Spider Man,’ ‘Planet of the Apes’” while also noting “and he’s pushing hard to help set up the ‘Pineapple Express’ sequel. I guess he thinks only ‘too big to fail studio films’ are the artistically valid ventures.”

No word on if thus actually happened, but he probably then dropped the mic and walked away.

Hanley is currently at the Cannes Film Festival looking to sell his movie, so it’s no surprise he answered this criticism swiftly and sternly. It remains to be seen, though, if the interest among financers is there to make this film a reality.
