A study claims that cocaine use has become so popular in the United Kingdom that the water supply has been contaminated.
According to the New York Daily News, the study alleges that cocaine has been detected in the water supply, even after rigorous purification. Drinking Water Inspectorate researchers found benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine, in the UK's supply of drinking water.
Let Steve Rolles of drug policy group Transform tell it, this is simply evidence of extensive cocaine use. Why the increase in popularity? Rolles credits that to the drug becoming "cheaper and cheaper." Don't take this report as law, but be wary of the water regardless.
