An MTA bus crashed into a Washington Heights building this morning after being hit by a van, officials say. 

According to Gothamist, the collision occurred just after 7:40 a.m. At least five people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, though the MTA says the bus was empty and out of service at the time of the accident: 

At 7:43 am. bus #6372 on the M4 route, was struck by a van at 155th Street and Broadway. Preliminary reports states that the auto struck the left center of the bus, the bus jumped the curb, and struck the front of a building on Broadway between 155th and 156th Street. The bus was not in passenger service at the time of the accident. 5 injuries reported: 2 pedestrians, 2 occupants in the van involved in the accident, and the bus operator. They were removed to Harlem & St Luke's Hospital with unknown injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
