Just because you’ve been named People’s “Most Beautiful Woman in the World” doesn’t mean reporters are going to be able to pronounce your name.
Lupita Nyong’o—winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress and cover girl of this week’s People magazine—can’t seem to get people to figure out how to say her name correctly. Newcasters across the country, many of whom are familiar with 12 Years a Slave and Nyong’o’s award-winning role, still could not get a handle on just how to get her name right.
We’ll go ahead and guess that it was the apostrophe that threw them, but that is pure speculation. In any case, enjoy this humorous montage:
