Google is entering the set-top TV device fray with a product called Android TV, according to a new report from the Verge based on internal Google documents obtained by the site. Rather than a new iteration of Google TV, Android TV will reportedly offer a more traditional set-top box experience, much like Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Fire TV.
"Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform," reads one Google document "It’s all about finding and enjoying content with the least amount of friction." It will be "cinematic, fun, fluid, and fast."
Its primary proposition will reportedly be to offer smart recommendations and simplify the TV experience, by limiting the number of steps users must take to begin watching videos. "Access to content should be simple and magical," reads another document, which also warns that it should not require more than three clicks to get to content.
Google is reportedly in the process of soliciting developers to create apps for the service, meaning this is likely about to get very interesting.
