Sony has announced that the next-gen PlayStation 4, released just five months ago, has sold 7 million units and game sales have topped 20.5 million.

Sony has been quick to announced sales numbers while competitor Microsoft - the other party in the so-called console war - has remained relatively silent. Microsoft has said that it is breaking its own records surpassing sales numbers put up by the Xbox 360 at its launch. As of January Microsoft said it sold 3 million Xbox One consoles.

It's hard to have a console war if one side won't put its cards on the table.
