As it turns out, even Secret Service agents have a hard time resisting temptation in Amsterdam. The Washington Post reports that three men assigned to protect President Obama were put on administrative leave after a night of hard drinking in the Dutch capital.
To be clear, this wasn't a case of an agent having a beer after a long day of public service. Staff at the Huis Ter Duin Hotel in Noordwijk, where Obama had been staying, were concerned enough bring the case forward to officials.
The hotel staff alerted the U.S. Embassy in the Netherlands after finding the unconscious agent Sunday morning, a day before Obama arrived in the country, according to two of the people. The embassy then alerted Secret Service managers on the presidential trip, which included the agency’s director, Julia Pierson.
According to the Post, any agent on an official assignment must refrain from alcohol for at least 10 hours before they go on duty. Then again, it's probably easier to take a bullet for the President if you're wasted.
