Officials say a train derailment at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago left 32 people injured this morning.
According to NBC Chicago, an eight-car Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train traveled through the end of the platform, colliding with escalators leading to the airport's terminals around 3 a.m. "The train actually climbed over the last stop, jumped up on the sidewalk and then went up the stairs and escalators," Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Jose Santiago told NBC Chicago.
Twelve people were in critical condition at Resurrection Medical Center, while another seven were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital after complaining about neck and back pain. NBC Chicago adds that five people were treated at Swedish Covenant Hospital.
Brian Steele, spokesman for the CTA, says that video footage will be reviewed, but it's still too early to determine exactly what caused the crash. According to the CTA, Blue Line service between O'Hare and Rosemont station remains suspended.
