New York is a town where people can't seem to get their heads around the fact that things change. As soon as you get settled into your new apartment, meet the girl of your dreams and nab the job you've always wanted, some event happens that makes you realize you don't actually know anything about this town. These events don't have to be monumental. It can be as simple as a sighting on the street, a brief encounter with an unknown substance on the subway platform, or a conversation with a stranger.
Beyond change, the only other guarantee New York offers is that you'll always have a lot of questions—about money, liquids, the Knicks and bikes. You'll also have existential questions that will leave you feeling confused, lonely, inadequate and angry. New York is one elusive bitch. You may never find the answers you've been looking for, but you can rest assured that all New Yorkers are asking the same questions. Take comfort in the fact that you are not alone, this is still one of the best cities in the world, and at least you don't live in Florida.
