Last night, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio appeared on The Daily Show, armed with jokes—which his spokeswoman said he wrote himself—about his predecessor, Michael Bloomberg, and Forkgate.
When Jon Stewart jokingly noted that it hadn't snowed this much during Bloomberg's reign, de Blasio pounced on the opportunity at humor: "I think he paid the right guy. I mean, he had the money." It was like a Wade-to-LeBron alley-oop.
However, de Blasio found the most success with self-deprecating humor, specifically regarding the now infamous pizza incident. Removing a knife and fork from his pocket, the mayor said "As mayor of Napoli—I mean New York City—we are always ready for our pizza." After watching Stewart eat pizza like a regular person, de Blasio followed suit. He was rewarded with a Big Gulp (take that, Bloomberg); now he's a real New Yorker.
