Earlier this afternoon, Associated Press reporter Jonathan Lemire tweeted out a picture of Bill de Blasio making his first mistake as mayor of New York City: Eating pizza with a fork.

The picture was taken at Goodfellas Pizza on Staten Island where he met a 104-year-old Staten Island resident, who, for the record, utilized his hands to help devour the pizza. Mayor de Blasio eventually came to his senses and ate the pizza like a normal, sloppy American, but Lemire said he alternated back-and-forth between his hands and the fork and knife method.

Update: @BilldeBlasio finished eating the slice with his hands.
Update to an update: @BilldeBlasio returns to the knife and fork to start his second slice.
.@BilldeBlasio goes for slice #3. Note: the 104-year-old guy eating pizza with the mayor is simply using his hands.

Alas, there's a method to the mayor's madness, or rather an explanation for his method:

.@BilldeBlasio explains pizza-eating strategy by saying he's visited Italy several times and they use fork there. Then, he switches to hands

All is right in the world. It could've been worse—he could've put ice in his beer.
