After a year that saw the most deaths on MTA-operated tracks since 2008, the agency is testing out new technology for safety reasons. The goal is to employ motion sensor technologies to warn conductors about track interference and warn conductors in time, if need be.
Below are the four options the MTA is weighing:
Closed-circuit television cameras and “intelligent video” computer software that recognizes when a large object moves from the platform to the tracks.
