Would You Rather Spend Millions on a NYC Apartment, Or Slightly Less on a Private Island?

More bang for your buck.

Forget buying an apartment in New York City, you might as well just buy a private island near New York—you'd be saving money, anyway. Willow Island, located on Putnam Lake in Patterson, N.Y., is an acre with a three-story, four-bedroom home and its own New York City provenance, all for $995,000. According to the New York Post, the average New York City apartment costs $1.4 million.

Though Willow Island is just a 30 minute commute from the city, you would have to row home each night from Patterson, where the two-car garage is located. If you could realistically afford either (and assuming you don't want both), which would you rather have: an apartment in Manhattan, or your own private (less expensive) island?
