There's hope for the Oscars yet. In an announcement posted on her Twitter this morning, Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she is set to host the 86th Academy Awards in 2014.
It's official: I'm hosting the #Oscars! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra.
It'll be DeGeneres' second time hosting the awards show: Back in February 2007, she hosted the 79th Academy Awards, for which she garnered positive reviews and even an Emmy nomination. These awards shows are generally hit or miss (more misses than hits, unfortunately—remember Anne Hathaway and James Franco?) so it's nice to see the show go with someone who actually has a track record at hosting a show successfully.
The 86th Academy Awards, now complete with host Ellen DeGeneres, are set to air on ABC on March 2, 2014.
