In an interview with Jeuxactu, Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies explains some aspects of the new Grand Theft Auto Vand sheds new light on the games choices and direction.

Multiple playable characters had been previously considered for GTA: San Andreas, Benzies revealed, but the idea was abandoned for technical reasons. With GTA V however, "one character alone could not manage all the activities and tasks we wanted to establish."

Benzies says that players will jump right into the storyline. "Today, we want to surprise people with very intense missions from the start. The pace of the game is much faster than any of its predecessors.”

"From the beginning, we want to show off the new game mechanics while creating intense, action-packed gameplay, to capture the player's attention immediately. Remember that the three characters in the game are already living in the city of Los Santos and surrounding areas. They are not newcomers like Niko and Tommy Vercetti, or people returning after a long absence like CJ."

Players will jump right into characters lives; they already have contacts and busy schedules that will give players a sense of total immersion. Though all three characters will not be playable from the start. "We want to give the player the opportunity to get to know the three characters individually, and explore the world as each of them."

GTA V looks to give a new sense of realism to the series. Benzies insists that all of the violence will be plausible and relevant to the plot. "You won't see anyone doing crazy things for no reason. The player will have access to enough heavy artillery early in the game, but gain, in the particular context and not without reason."

GTA V drops on September 17 of this year. Look for everyone you know to be trampling each other to get it.
