Abby Lee Miller is scary. Yes, she knows what she’s doing when it comes to teaching the kids in her studio how to dance—there’s no denying that—and as a means-to-an-end exmple of pedagogy, she deserves some props. But, damn, does she have to be so terrifying when she teaches?

Short answer: Yes (if you're in the audience, that is). People don’t watch Dance Moms for the dance moms—they watch it for Abby Lee’s meltdowns. This is what makes good reality. You want to watch a woman scream at children. You want to watch a woman who looks like she might eat those children, given the chance.
