When first jumping into Alan Wake, it seems pretty clear cut, follow the light and survive.
Wake's storyline becomes something way different and far more engrossing very quickly. You'll fight lumberjack demons with only a flashlight and pistol while avoiding a mysterious Dark Energy through terrifying yet beautiful environments.
While playing straight through makes Wake a fun action game, engaging in the broad storyline is what's really gratifying. The game's dark tone feels straight out of a Stephen King novel and the whole experience is tempered by self-aware lightheartedness, courtesy some cheeky NPCs (Non-Playable Characters). This is just the stuff that classics are made of.
