Disposable income can bring the ridiculousness out of people. According to the New York Post, wealthy New York City residents are paying anywhere from $130 to $1,000 for sessions where they receive vitamins intravenously. The logic behind this? It apparently does everything from keeping energy levels high to improving appearance. Soon enough, everyone on Wall Street will have one of these at their desk.
The Post says that the treatment begins with a blood workup to identify the necessary nutriments, then patients sit with the IV drip for anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Some doctors—the ones benefiting from it—support the practice; others don't.
Elizabeth Kavaler, a urologist and assistant clinical professor at Weill Cornell Medical Center, says "There is no evidence-based medicine to support the use of vitamin drips; they are just moneymakers.’’ Come on rich folks, there are much better things to waste your money on.
