Ever since it hit the festival circuit at SXSW, director Joe Swanberg's latest film Drinking Buddies has become of the most hotly anticipated indie movies of the summer. The film, a refreshing take on the romantic comedy genre, follows Jake Johnson and Olivia Wilde as a pair of BFFs who work together at a Chicago brewery. Things get complicated after a weekend getaway with their significant others (played by Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston, respectively) leaves them reevaluating their relationships. Of course, the copious amounts of booze only fuel the flames.
Out on VOD on July 25th and in theaters everywhere on August 23rd, Drinking Buddies is a must-see for beer aficionados and movie lovers sick of rom-com cliches. Also, be warned, clear your schedule after that because you'll probably feel an inexorable urge to hit up a pub that night.
