Fingerprints could be going the way of the dinosaur thanks to this iris scanning device from AOptix that fits on an iPhone; and they're pitching it now to police and security firms.
The iris scanner works by shining a bright infrared light into the eye and taking a picture of the iris from about 10 inches away, then matching the patterns of the colored part of the eye with what is stored on a database. The company actually claims that the scanner can work from 60 feet away (yeah, that's not INSANE.)
Word to the wise: don't do the crime if you can't do the time—because technology is getting better at making sure you get caught.
