Charlie Kaufman is known for writing carefully constructed dramas that really get you thinking about deep shit like the human condition and the meaning of life, so color us a little surprised by his next project: A half-hour comedy series for FX, called How and Why

The news was announced at the network upfronts today, according to Vulture. Kaufman will be writing, directing, and executive-producing the pilot, which will follow a man who knows more about nuclear reactors than about how to live life. Though, it's undeniably a departure from his regular fare that includes heartstring-tugging films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation, we've gotta say, it sounds quirky enough. Interest officially piqued.
