University of Toronto graduates Tom Rodinger, Gimmy Chu, and Christian Yan believe they can change the world with a light bulb.

Of course, not just any light bulb. The trio want to affect change with a light bulb, called the NanoLight, that can output the same brightness as a 100 watt bulb while using only 12 watts, making it the most energy efficient bulb in the world.

To get the project off the ground, Rodinger, Chu, and Yan started a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $20,000. Apparently a lot of people see the need for such a bulb, as the NanoLight project has already raised $227,000 with 11 days to go.

How, exactly, will the odd-looking, highly-efficient bulb help save the world? According the creators, every aspect of their work on the NanoLight is centered "around creating higher energy efficiency, reducing carbon footprints and creating ecological value in all of our products."

With the goal already hit, the team is planning to release the NanoLight in July.
