Though it was released at the beginning of this month, Melissa McCarthy- Jason Bateman-starring comedy Identity Thief managed to snag the top spot at the box office for a third time this weekend, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting. The film just beat the newly released action-thriller Snitch, earning $14.1 million to bring its domestic total to a solid $93.7 million.
The weekend itself was a rather slow one for the box office - though this is thought to be due in part to the fact that it's Oscars weekend, numbers have dropped quite a bit compared to last year when Act of Valor took in an impressive $24 million in theaters.
Snitch took the second place spot with $13 million earned, Escape From Planet Earth came in at number three with $11 million, and the Nicholas Sparks romantic drama Safe Haven snagged the fourth spot with $10.6 million. The news was even worse for last week's box office winner, A Good Day to Die Hard - revenue for that film tumbled a whopping 60 percent, and the film only pulled in $10 million.
As always, final weekend numbers will be released tomorrow.
