For movie fans, the Oscars rival the Super Bowl in terms of its must-watch importance. It doesn't even matter if you resepect any of the movies nominated for Best Picture—the desire and need to be a part of the conversation outweighs any and all personal preferences and critical evaluations.
Tonight's broadcast of 85th Academy Awards is one of the toughest ones to call in recent years, with recent reports suggesting that Best Director and all acting categories excluding Best Actor (which Daniel Day-Lewis has locked up) could provide a few surprise winners. Or so we hope.
What happens, though, if the only people you can watch tonight's Oscar ceremony with are folks who prefer The Hangover's Bradley Cooper to Silver Linings Playbook nominee Bradley Cooper? Or, even worse, think Michael Haneke's Amour is a romantic comedy?
