It’s pretty much common knowledge that The Odyssey is one of the great literary works in history. The story of Odysseus’ journey back to Ithaca after the Trojan War is embedded in the minds of Greek historians, literary enthusiasts, and overwhelmed college freshmen around the globe. And according to Deadline, Warner Bros. is looking to bring a futuristic version of this epic to the big screen.

The site is reporting that the studio has hired recent NYU grad James DiLapo to write the script for the movie, which will see the setting for the film move to outer space. At one point Brad Pitt was attached to star in this project, but he has since dropped off. The only talent on the movie at this point is DiLapo, along with producers Terry Dougas, Paris Kasidokostas Latsis, and David Heyman.

And if that’s not enough, the studio also sees this sci-fi Odyssey as a potential franchise for the future. Do you think you’re ready to see Homer’s world in space, or does the mere thought of The Odyssey still give you headaches from English class? Let us know.
