A Crowd of at Least 500 Plans to Light Up in Front of the Liberty Bell in Philly Tomorrow

Independence day.

If all goes as planned, Philly stoners will be inhaling the spirit of 1776 on Saturday afternoon. The city's chapter of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) is planning a "Smoke Down Prohibition" on Saturday, where smokers will light up and extend the middle finger to the man by getting high on the historic Independence Mall.

The event, which will feature poems about marijuana authored by attendees, will last from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. At—you guessed it—4:20 p.m., everyone will spark up in unison. The festivities may not start at 3:30 p.m. on the dot thanks to stoner time, but you'd better believe that weed will be smoked at exactly 4:20 p.m. Also, don't be surprised if you hear a marijuana-themed rendition of "The Greatest Love of All" being sung by a group of potheads.

The image of people smoking weed near the Liberty Bell is probably not exactly what this country's forefathers had in mind when the Declaration of Independence was drafted, but who are we to judge? Regardless, Independence Mall will go up in smoke while people smoke on that Thomas Jefferson. Let freedom ring.
