Although Florida Democrat Earl K. Wood and Alabama Republican Charles Beasley won their respective elections handily, it's doubtful that they will end up taking office—mainly because they each died in mid-October.
Wood, 96, died on Oct. 15 from natural causes, and Beasley, 77, died on Oct. 12 from what might have been an aneurysm, yet neither incident managed to deter voters. Wood managed to win by a margin of 56-44 percent, while Beasley won his race 52-48.
Walter Sansing, who was running against Beasley, said: "It is a touchy situation. When you are running against a dead man, you are limited as to what you can say."
The two election losers might want to hire new campaign managers.
