If you asked any of the staff members at Georgia Highlands College, they would have said 19-year-old Christopher Fowler was the silent, harmless type that constantly hung around the school’s IT department and was well liked by instructors. Obviously, the feeling wasn’t mutual, as he hacked into the school’s VoIP telephone system using a keystroke logger to procure access to administrative machines. He changed his grades, stole user passwords, and recorded staff conversations, which, college spokeswoman Dana Davis said, “freaked out a few people.” Police confiscated four computers at his home and charged him with computer trespassing and unlawful eavesdropping.
