Ang Lee’s upcoming Oscar contender, Life of Pi, was supposed to be a reunion of sorts between the director and Tobey Maguire, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor's small part in the movie has been cut from the final product. A source close to the production told the site that Maguire was simply too famous for the scene and he stuck out too much among the cast of unknowns.

In a statement on the site, Maguire said, “I fully support Ang's decision to go a different direction for this role in Life of Pi. Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful."

Lee then added in a statement, “To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future."

Maguire is next going to star in The Great Gatsby, which was just delayed until next year. Life of Pi is scheduled for a November 21 release date.
